LSSU Hockey Announces 2020-21 Team Captains

SAULT STE. MARIE — Lake Superior State hockey announced its new team captains for the next season with one captain and three alternates, including a Sault Ste. Marie native.

Senior defenseman Lukas Kaelble has been named captain for the 2020-21 season. He was an alternate captain for the Lakers last year and has recorded 42 points in 104 career games. He also tied his career-high in goals last season.

Senior defenseman Will Riedell, senior forward Hampus Eriksson and junior forward Ashton Calder will be the alternate captains for the Lakers.

Calder will be the first Sault Ste Marie native to wear a letter on his jersey since the 2009-10 season. He has proven himself valuable for LSSU entering his junior season. He is the active points leader with 50 career points in 78 games played. He also set new career-highs with 12 goals and 28 points last year.

Riedell has had a solid career for the Lakers with 34 points in 109 career games. He also set career highs last year with five goals, 13 assists, and 18 points.

Eriksson will be a senior and has played in the most games among the current Lakers on the roster with 110.  He has recorded 48 points in his career.
