Manistee Alum Fuller Named Michigan State’s Female Athlete of the Year

One of Manistee High School’s most decorated cross country and track and field athletes has earned another prestigious accolade.

0d722d8e F79f 4c20 9329 645025736074A 2015 Manistee graduate, Annie Fuller was recently named Michigan State’s George Alderton Female Co-Athlete of the Year.

An NCAA All-American and All-Region honoree during her junior and senior cross country campaigns, Fuller led the Spartans to their first Big Ten cross country championship since 2015 last fall.

During her time at Manistee, Fuller was a four-time all-state cross country honoree and a seven-time individual state champion in the 800 and 1,600 runs.

“Honestly I was very, very shocked. I had absolutely no idea that I was even in the running for something like that,” Fuller said. “Just to be put in that category of all the great athletes before me that have been given that accolade. I didn’t really have any words for it. If my teammates didn’t work as hard, we wouldn’t have won a Big Ten championship, I probably wouldn’t have done well. The whole way we race and do race is for our team, and I think that’s something really special about Michigan State.”

Fuller will return to Michigan State in the fall to compete for one final season and pursue a master’s degree.
