The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s decision Thursday to postpone conference competition and conference tournaments for all fall sports will have an effect on many northern Michigan student-athletes that are enrolled at Michigan NCAA Division III institutions.

One of those impacted by the decision is incoming Hope College freshman and Charlevoix graduate Luke Stuck. A defensive end, Stuck was looking forward to joining the Flying Dutchmen’s football program after battling injuries throughout his sophomore and junior campaigns at Charlevoix.

“D3 just started to everyone started to shut down,” Stuck said. “We were one of the last conferences to officially postpone or cancel, whatever you want to call it, the season. It was disappointing. We were all looking forward to defending the MIAA championship.”

Stuck joins a Flying Dutchmen program that went 9-2 in 2019, won the MIAA championship and made a NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Hope has gone 32-9 over the last four seasons.

The MIAA will release a decision regarding winter sports at a later date.
