Rudyard Receives ABCA Academic Excellence Award

RUDYARD – Although the Rudyard baseball program didn’t have the opportunity to play under first-year coach Billy Mitchell this spring, the program was honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Rudyard is one of 144 schools across the country, and just one of five in Michigan, to receive the ABCA’s Academic Excellence Award. Rudyard Bsb Award Vo2

To be recognized, the team’s coach must be a member of the ABCA and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

“It’s kind of cool to be one of 144 high schools in the United States to get the award and one of only five high schools in Michigan to get the award, too, so that’s pretty neat. And the only one in the U.P,” Rudyard coach Billy Mitchell said. “I’ve looked back at it in the awards in previous years and I’m pretty sure we are the first ever U.P. team receive the award, so that’s even better for the kids.”
