MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Three-time MHSAA cross country state finals qualifier and Big Rapids senior Hanna Brock is set to continue her academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Brock won’t be traveling far as she’s elected to stay close to home and attend Ferris State in the fall where she’ll compete on the school’s cross country and track and field programs.

Brock says she was initially unsure about attending a college close to home, but once she visited the campus and met with the teams, everything felt right.

“It was still like I have my family here and everything and I have a few friends, but it was just a perfect amount for me. It was new enough,” Brock said. “I still felt comfortable. I had one other girl on the team and a couple on the boys team that I knew and went to high school with. But all the other girls, they were really new. They were really welcoming, too.”

Brock ended her prep career as a four-time all-conference cross country athlete.
