Baeckeroot Tabbed as New Coach of Bellaire Football

Tom Bellaire

BELLAIRE – Longtime Bellaire assistant football coach Tom Baeckeroot is set to begin his first year as head coach of the Eagles this fall.

It’s a bittersweet time for Baeckeroot as he takes over a position that was held by Brock Robinson who passed away unexpectedly on April 10 at the age of 55. Robinson had served as the head coach of Bellaire’s varsity football program since 2013.

Baeckeroot, who most recently coached at the youth level in Bellaire, hopes to honor Robinson’s name and continue a football tradition Robinson left behind.

“Unfortunately with the passing of Brock here this past spring, it’s kind of heavy hearted a little bit, bittersweet,” Baeckeroot said. “I wanted to get back to the varsity level but I also wanted to be working with him (Robinson) as well. I look forward to that interaction with the kids and that competitive nature every fall.”

The Eagles and Baeckeroot are set to open preseason camp next week, with their first game tentatively scheduled at home against Bear Lake on Friday, Aug. 28.
