Beal City Opens 2020 Season with Midnight Practice

BEAL CITY – The Beal City football program officially kicked off its 2020 season Monday morning with a midnight practice.

A 2019 Division 8 finalist, Beal City went 12-2 a year ago, falling to Reading in the Division 8 state final after posting a 10-win improvement from 2018.

The Aggies erased back-to-back losing campaigns last year and took home a share of a Highland Conference championship.

This year’s crop of seniors know that they have some pretty big shoes to fill, but they’re motivated to continue Beal City’s winning tradition.

“There’s definitely some huge shoes to fill,” Beal City senior Jake Gross said. “I think we can do it, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work. Make sure everyone shows up. Make sure everyone’s doing their part. And just really connecting as a family.”

“Just hoping we can go out there and have a good year and win some games this year. And hopefully follow up,” added senior Ben Matthews.

Beal City is set to open its 2020 season against Saranac on Friday, Aug. 28. Beal City won last year’s meeting 56-0.
