Blunt Named CMU’s Interim Director of Athletics
MT. PLEASANT – Central Michigan University has named Rachel Blunt its interim director of athletics.
Blunt, who currently serves as CMU’s senior associate athletics director of institutional support services and senior women’s administrator, takes over for Michael Alford who is set to depart CMU at the end of August to become the CEO of Seminole Boosters Inc. at Florida State. CMU is still in the process of searching for Alford’s permanent replacement.
“As a leader in multiple areas of CMU athletics, Rachel is ideally suited and prepared to step into this interim role,” said CMU President Bob Davies in a statement. “Her breadth of experience will bring the necessary leadership and enable a seamless transition.”
Blunt joined CMU in 2016 as a member of the Athletics Executive Leadership Team and is a sports administrator for men’s and women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer programs. She also helps lead CMU’s Leadership Academy, Fire Up Program, Emerging Leaders and Director’s Table.
“Athletics are a vital part of life at CMU,” Blunt said. “I’m honored President Davies has looked to me to take on this position and look forward to helping our department and our university meet challenges and embrace new opportunities.”
A two-time graduate of Southeast Missouri State, Blunt previously served as assistant director of athletics for compliance at Southeast Missouri State prior to joining CMU.
