Coleman Continues to Roll with the Changes

COLEMAN – After consecutive two-win campaigns, the Coleman football program opened preseason camp this week.

The Comets are looking to get back on track after five consecutive losing seasons and will do so in an ever-changing conference landscape.

The Mid-State Activities Conference has added a new member this year in St. Charles. The Bulldogs replace Merrill which became the fourth MSAC member to drop down to 8-player since 2017. The five-member conference also includes Montabella, Breckenridge and Carson City-Crystal.

“There’s a lot of unknowns, maybe not a lot of film to go by, especially with new coaches, you don’t know what they’re going to run sometimes,” Coleman coach Chad Klopf said. “We’re just going to control what we can control and take care of ourselves and hopefully we’re ready to go.”

“We are used to being very versatile, with dealing with different types of teams and different types of offenses and defenses and stuff like that,” added Coleman senior Bryce Middleton. “I think we’ll get through that perfectly fine.”

Coleman opens its season at Farwell on Thursday, Aug. 27. It marks the 13th straight season the two sides have opened their seasons against one another. The Comets won last year’s meeting 22-16.
