Gaylord Kicks Off Preseason Camp

GAYLORD – After going winless in the Big North Conference last year, the Gaylord football team is looking to get back on track in 2020.

Gaylord dropped its final five games of the 2019 season to fall to 2-7 and snap a streak of consecutive winning campaigns.

The Blue Devils enter the 2020 season with a smaller roster size and will rely on the leadership of their starting seniors.

“We’re ecstatic to be out here,” Gaylord coach Shawn Sargent said. “Not a lot of schools obviously have the opportunity, whether it be in the state but especially obviously at the college level so, we were just appreciating every day we get on the field and making sure we do things the right way. I’d say from a coach’s perspective, you know, our big emphasis is make sure that the kids are confident.”

Gaylord implemented a new offense last year, which allows for a faster pace.

“I know a big thing is we have a lot of experience on the offensive line this year,” Gaylord senior Corey Deer said. “The senior leaders just got to be relatable and try to share that experience with the kids that don’t have as much and help them out.”

Gaylord opens its season at Lake Fenton on Thursday, Aug. 27. It marks the first meeting between the two schools.
