Lake Takes Over Reins at Gladwin

GLADWIN – For the first time since the Gladwin boys soccer program’s inaugural season in 2002, the Flying G’s begin a new campaign under the direction of a new coach.

Jerome Smalley stepped down this summer after a two decade-long coaching career that saw him lead Gladwin to 240 wins, two district championships, a regional title and seven conference championships.New Gladwin Head Bsoc Coach

Dominic Lake takes over the reins of a program that has won 20 or more games in four of the last five seasons.

Lake is no stranger to Gladwin’s program having spent the previous four years as the school’s boys and girls JV soccer coach.

With a young roster that features a lone senior, Lake is looking forward to helping his young players grow as a team.

“We work on the small stuff a lot and that’s what we’re working on right now,” Lake said. “When you have a team of young players, you’ve got to work on the little stuff, the finesse. The little finesse they need to get with the ball movement and all that.”

The Flying G’s opened their season Wednesday with a 9-2 loss to Northern Michigan Soccer League foe McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
