Rudyard Aims to Limit Mistakes in 2020
RUDYARD – After consecutive 4-5 seasons, a young but more experienced Rudyard football program is ready to take the field in 2020.
Rudyard sported a young lineup a year ago with a bevy of sophomore starters.
Now with a junior-heavy roster, the Bulldogs hope that early varsity playing experience for those sophomores will see the program improve and contend for a playoff spot again.
“We’ve got to make less mistakes, we have to take better care of the football and we have to finish drives,” Rudyard coach Jim Suggitt said. “The Brimley game (38-14, loss) stands out. We got into the red zone four or five times and they just slammed the door on us. We have to finish drives like that to be competitive in this league.”
The Bulldogs return a wealth of youthful experience after having graduated just three seniors.
“All our sophomores are juniors now, so they’re all a bit bigger and stronger,” Rudyard senior Louie Mayer said. “We’re about the same amount of seniors. I think we have four now. We’ll hopefully do a lot better than last year.”
Rudyard opens its season at Rapid River on Friday, Aug. 28. Rudyard won last year’s meeting 27-26.
