Sanford Meridian Staying Strong as Camp Opens

SANFORD – After making its deepest run in the postseason since 2007 last year, the Sanford Meridian football program opened its preseason camp this week.

The Mustangs graduated six seniors from last year’s squad that went 8-4 and won the program’s second-ever district championship.

Sanford Meridian is hoping to carry that momentum over to this fall and unite a community after May’s historic and devastating floods in the Sanford area.

“The way these kids came together to help out and help anyone in the community that needed it, it’s definitely brought us together as a team and as a community and we’re really excited to have this opportunity to represent our community now and we look forward to playing,” Bilina said.

Cameron Metzger, Meridian Senior: “I feel it’s going to carry into football,” added Sanford Meridian Cameron Metzger. “We all have this connection, we all helped out during it and became closer during the time.”

Sanford Meridian opens its season at home against Midland Bullock Creek on Friday, Aug. 28. The Mustangs won last year’s meeting 32-7.
