TRAVERSE CITY – High school girls golf will be one of the first prep sports to return to competition when it tees off Wednesday throughout the state.

Alongside boys tennis, girls golf can begin competitive events on Wednesday while cross country can take to the competitive trails Friday.

With 25 golfers comprising its team, Traverse City Central has one of its largest rosters in years and will start off its 2020 schedule by hosting the annual Lober Classic.

With new guidelines in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Lober Classic will have a different look, including a smaller entry field.

“Well the way it is for planning it, it changes daily,” Central coach Lois McManus said. “This year we are doing tee times, we’re not going to have a coaches meeting, we’re not going to have a players meeting.”

“It’s the first big tournament and it’s the one we host so that’s exciting,” added Central senior Ally McCardel. “I think it’ll be interesting to see how it goes in terms of the first tournament with COVID protocols but I think it’ll go well.”

The Lober Classic begins Wednesday morning at Crystal Mountain’s Betsie Valley course.
