Traverse City West Eyes 5th Straight Playoff Bid, Big North Title

TRAVERSE CITY – On the heels of four consecutive playoff appearances, the Traverse City West football team opened its 2020 camp this week.

Despite graduating nearly 20 seniors off last year’s 7-3 squad, the Titans return a number of starters on both sides of the ball.

With so much uncertainty in the world of athletics during the coronavirus pandemic, West has grown closer as a team despite cancellations and restrictions.

“The best part about this team is just how tight they are and how geeked they are to just get into football,” West coach Greg Vaughan said. “Every day is a blessing for us coming out here, we talk about that every day. Tomorrow we get another chance to come out and do whatever. I think that really in football is something that especially right now, we can build on.”

“I think we all just have to be together at this point and that’s all we can really do,” added West senior Peyton Wilkening. “I think we have a great team and I think we’ll have a great season.”

West opens its season at home against Midland on Thursday, Aug. 27. Midland won last year’s meeting 28-20.
