Pit Spitters, Mac Daddies Set for Michigan Pod Championship Game

TRAVERSE CITY – The stage is set for the Northwoods League Michigan Pod Championship game.

The Traverse City Pit Spitters (33-8) welcome in the Kalamazoo Mac Daddies (33-40) Saturday at Turtle Creek Stadium.

The Pit Spitters advanced to the already sold out championship game after a 6-3 come-from-behind win over the Great Lakes Resorters Thursday.

The Mac Daddies clinched their spot in the final via a 4-2 win over the Kalamazoo Growlers Friday.

“I think it means a ton,” Pit Spitters manager Josh Rebandt said. “Obviously you play to have those meaningful games at the end of the season. That’s obviously what the regular season is there for, and then when you get those meaningful games and have a chance to win it and you do and then you got a chance to get one more big game, you know it’s very satisfying.”

For returning members of last year’s Northwoods League championship winning Pit Spitters squad, Saturday’s game presents a unique opportunity for players to claim back-to-back titles.

“I wasn’t expecting to be up here this year,” said Pit Spitters pitcher and 2019 Northwoods League champion Evan Gates. “The fact that now this opportunity is here, and if we’re going to go all the way we might as well finish strong you know. We’re going to be here until September, we’re here to win it. To actually be here and experience the energy of the crowd and tomorrow when the rally towels come out, you know, I’m looking forward to it definitely.”

First pitch Saturday from Turtle Creek Stadium is set for 4:05 p.m.
