Traverse City Central Names Draper Boys Basketball Coach

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central has hired Stephen Draper as its next varsity boys basketball coach.

Draper, who will also be joining Central’s teaching staff in the social studies department, replaces Travis Schuba who stepped down in June to accept the head assistant coaching position with Davenport University’s women’s basketball program.

Draper comes to Central after three years as an assistant coach with Albion College’s men’s basketball program. The Britons went 40-14 over the last two seasons.

Prior to Albion College, Draper began his coaching career at Holt High School as an assistant coach before moving on to Marietta (Ohio) College.

“Stephen will be a great addition to our coaching staff,” Traverse City Central athletic director Zac Stevenson said in a statement. “His experience both on the court and in the classroom will be a benefit to our student athletes and to our school.”

Draper takes over a Trojan program that went 42-21 under Schuba, including a 19-3 mark and a share of a Big North Conference championship in 2019-20.
