Detroit Tigers Name A.J. Hinch Manager

The Detroit Tigers named former Houston Astros manager A.J. Finch as the organization’s new manager on Friday.

Hinch is the 39th manager in Tigers history and replaces Ron Gardenhire who stepped down in September, citing health reasons. Gardenhire led the Tigers from 2018-20.

Hinch’s contract is reportedly a multi-year deal.

Hinch, 46, began his managerial career with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2009-10. He then went on to manage the Astros from 2015-19, leading Houston to four playoff appearances and the 2017 World Series title.

A former MLB catcher and 1996 Olympic Gold medalist, Hinch was fired by Houston in January following an investigation of a cheating scandal by the Astros.
