Elk Rapids Sets High Goals for Postseason
ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids boys soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 victory over Boyne City to secure the Elks’ fourth straight conference title. The Elks, who sit at 15-2-and-4 overall, now set their goals on extending their streak of district titles.
Last season, the Elks lost to Ludington in the regional final. It was the second straight year they lost to the Orioles in regionals.
“You never know what tomorrow brings and we’re not going to waste opportunities that we have,” Elk Rapids coach Nate Plum said. “We thought we had a strong opportunity to do something special last year, and that’s why you play the game. It’s really one game at a time.”
The Elks have won two straight district titles, looking to make it three straight this season.
“Our expectations are pretty high. We have to make sure that we still play with confidence and that we play our best and we’ll be fine,” said Mason Travis.
“We’ve been playing together for a long time,” Preston Ball added. “It means a lot. This program means a lot for us. We’re playing for this program, fans at home, the whole town of Elk Rapids.”
The Elks earned a bye in their district tournament and they will wait to play the winner of Kalkaska and Cheboygan next Monday.
