Elk Rapids Shutouts Shelby, Advances to State Semifinals

CLARE — Elk Rapids recorded six goals in a shutout win over Shelby in the Division 3 regional finals game in Clare on Saturday.

With the win the Elks advance to the state semifinals game for the first time since 2012. They were 0-3 in their last regional finals appearances, falling to Ludington each year. Elk Rapids finally breaks the losing streak in the regional finals game.

Elk Rapids will face Grand Rapids South Christian in the D3 semifinals game on Wednesday, November 4th.

For Shelby, this was a rematch of their last regional finals game in 2005 which was against Elk Rapids. The loss ends the Tigers season after an impressive playoff run finishing with a record of 8-4-2.
