Glen Lake Boys Basketball Coach Ruelas Steps Down

GLEN ARBOR — The Glen Lake boys basketball coach Rich Ruelas stepped down Monday after coaching the Lakers for five seasons. He had been with the program for 10 total years.

Ruelas went 96-20 in his five years as the Lakers’ head coach, leading them to a state finals appearance in 2018. Glen Lake is currently on a 32-game win streak in the Northwest Conference as well.

In a press release from the Glen Lake athletic department, Ruelas said he wants to spend more time with his family.

“I love coaching and building relationships with the boys. Coaching at the varsity level is a year-round commitment, and I am missing too much time away from my wife and children,” Ruelas said in the press release. “Being a husband and a father needs to be my number one priority right now, especially during this important and memorable growth period for my children.”

Glen Lake begins its search for a new coach immediately. Their first game is scheduled for Dec. 8 against McBain.
