Kingsley, St. Francis to Meet in Sports Overtime Game of the Week

TRAVERSE CITY – It’s another historically tough matchup for our Sports Overtime Game of the Week, as Kingsley takes on Traverse City St. Francis at Thirlby Field Friday.

This will be the 14th meeting between the NMFL Legends foes, where St. Francis leads the series 9-4. However, last year the Stags got their first win against the Glads since 2012, winning 26-7.

“We’re not going to think about what happened in 2012 or 2015,” said Kingsley head coach Tim Wooer. “We’re thinking about 2020 and a conference championship and what we can do beyond that.”

“This has always been one of our rivalries so it’ll always be good to get one back on them especially since we lost one last year,” said St. Francis senior Casey Donahue.

So far this season, Kingsley has had an impressive start with an unblemished record and has only allowed two touchdowns in those games.

“No cupcakes if you aren’t ready to play on a Friday night, you’re going to be in a for a long night,” added Coach Wooer.

As for the Gladiators, they are 1-1 on the season after bouncing back last week with a 22 point win after their week one loss.

“You know two good programs going at it and I think that now we’re getting to week 3 now everyone’s got their feet under them especially us after stubbing our toe week one,” said St. Francis head coach Josh Sellers. “This will be a good barometer for both teams.”

The tradition of success is strong in both these programs, and the experience that comes with it will be the driving force behind this rivalry game and the rest of the season.

“I think you can lean on leadership and tradition,” added Wooer. “You know in big games you look to your seniors these kids have been through it.”

“I think we’re a lot more confident coming off a win we have to make a few adjustments with some injuries but we’ll definitely be ready and it’ll be a well matched game,” said St. Francis senior Owen Mueller.

Kickoff Friday is set for 7 p.m.
