MAC Releases Fall Sports Plan for Winter/Spring

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Mid-American Conference announced a plan to have four fall sports — volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and field hockey — return to play in the winter and spring of 2021. The conference is currently working on plans for men’s and women’s cross country.

The schedules will allow teams to participate in NCAA competition according to NCAA guidelines.

Volleyball will compete in 22 conference matches in a double round robin format between Jan. 22 and March 27. Teams will play the same opponent in one week at one site, with games on Thursday and Friday. At the end of the season, the top four teams will compete from April 2-3 with the top seed hosting. The winner receives an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Women’s soccer will compete in 10 conference matches in a divisional double round robin format between March 4 and April 11. Their games will be played on Thursday and Sunday. The season ends with a single-match championship on Saturday, April 17 with the top team hosting. It will feature the two division winners and the champion receives an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Men’s soccer will also compete in 10 conference games from March 7 to April 18. Their matches will be on Wednesday and Sunday. The regular season champion receives the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Field hockey will compete on Fridays and Saturdays in 12 conference matches in a double round robin format between March 12 and April 24. Teams will play at one site per weekend. They will also schedule Bellarmine during their bye weeks. Bellarmine joins the conference for the 2021-22 season. The regular season champion will receive the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
