Manistee Holds off Ludington in Thriller, Reclaims Dad’s Trophy

LUDINGTON – Manistee held off Ludington for a thrilling 21-20 victory in our Sports Overtime Game of the Week on Friday.

Driving late and trailing 21-14 in the quarter Friday, Ludington drew within a point with just more than seven seconds go on regulation on a Kyle Barnett reception. The Orioles would attempt to to go ahead on a two-point conversion, but Manistee’s Keith Barke came away with the interception in the end zone to secure the victory.

“That’s high school football for you right there. That’s everything you could ever want as far as that game is concerned,” Manistee coach Troy Bytwork said. “I couldn’t be more proud of our guys they fought right down to the last second there it was amazing. I told the kids there’s been a spot where that trophy left and we wanted to get it back and they played really hard and they’re deserving of it”

The two teams were tied at 7-7 after a quarter, with the Chippewas pulling ahead in the final seconds of the second quarter for a 14-7 lead at the half.

Firday’s meeting was the 143rd in the series and marked Manistee’s fourth win in its last six meetings with Ludington.

Ludington (3-2, 3-2) visits Lake City next Friday while Manistee (4-1, 4-1) hosts McBain.
