Shelby Shuts Out Big Rapids for First District Title Since 2005

KINGSLEY – Shelby captured its first district championship since 2005 with a 2-0 win over Big Rapids in a Division 3 district final Thursday.

The Tigers held a 1-0 lead at the half after an own goal by the Cardinals.

Thursday’s district final appearance was Shelby’s fourth in five years.

With the loss, Big Rapids concludes its season at 9-5-1.

Shelby (7-3-2) will now face the winner of the Muskegon Oakridge district in a regional semifinal at Clare’s Brookwood Athletic Complex at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
