Cadillac, Sault Ste. Marie Set for District Final Rematch

Cadillac Fb District Finals Preview Vo 2

CADILLAC – A Division 4 district championship is up for grabs Friday as Cadillac hosts Sault Ste. Marie in a meeting of former Big North Conference foes.

A win for Cadillac would give the Vikings their second straight district championship while Sault Ste. Marie can capture their first district title in program history.

Friday’s contest is a rematch of last year’s Division 4 district final that saw Cadillac come away with a 21-6 win.

“It’s going to be a pretty good matchup, we’re very similar in style, a lot of running, downhill run,” Cadillac coach Cody Mallory said. “We’re just looking forward to it. It’s a team that we know well, we usually scrimmage them. It’s been a big emotional rollercoaster for the guys and so again let’s get to Friday and get things done.”

Last Five Meetings in Cadillac-Sault Ste. Marie Series
2019 – Cadillac 21, Sault Ste. Marie 6
2003 – Sault Ste. Marie 14, Cadillac 7
2002 – Sault Ste. Marie 31, Cadillac 28
2001 – Cadillac 14, Sault Ste. Marie 0
2000 – Cadillac 41, Sault Ste. Marie 6

While the Sault Ste. Marie (6-2) enters the district final winners of three straight, including a thrilling 22-16 win over Ludington as time expired last week, Cadillac has not played a game since a 51-14 win over Gaylord on Oct. 23. As the district’s top seed, the Vikings (5-2) received a bye in the first week of the postseason and was awarded a forfeit win a week ago after Alma canceled following positive COVID-19 cases within its program.

“With having the two bye weeks because of the forfeit last week, I can officially say that we’re just full throttle and it’s just a great energy to get back at it,” Cadillac senior Ryan Wood said. “We’re going to go out there and we’re just going to do our stuff.”

Friday’s winner will face either Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern (5-3) or Whitehall (7-1) in a regional final next week.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
