Davis Leads CMU Women Past WMU in MAC Opener

MT. PLEASANT – Molly Davis scored a game-high 20 points as the Central Michigan women’s basketball team tipped off the Mid-American Conference season with an 82-71 win over rival Western Michigan at McGuirk Arena on Wednesday.

Davis was one of four Chippewas (1-1, 1-0 MAC) to reach double figures, with Michael Kelly and Kyra Bussell joining her with 15 points apiece. Maddy Watters also tallied 12 points and three assists in the win.

CMU got out to a quick start Wednesday, holding a 25-16 lead after a quarter and a 42-30 lead at the half.

The Chippewas shot 47.8% from the floor (32-of-67) and 38.9% from 3-point range (14-of-36).

Sydney Shafer led the Broncos (1-1, 0-1) MAC) with 17 points.

CMU is back in action Saturday against Cincinnati.

Tipoff from McGuirk Arena is set for noon.
