BEAL CITY – After building Beal City’s girls cross country program into a state powerhouse, Dave King is retiring from the coaching rankings following a 20-plus year career with the Aggies.

King, who also coached Beal City’s girls track and field team for 11 years and the boys cross country program, coached 40 all-state cross country runners and led the Aggies to 13 top-10 finishes at the MHSAA Lower Peninsula finals over a span of 21 years at the varsity level.

Beal City won consecutive Division 4 girls cross country state championships in 2013 and 2014 while the boys program won the 2014 Division 4 title.

King says he is grateful for the great memories and is confident the future of Beal City’s program is in good hands.

“I’m going to miss it,” King said. “I’m going to miss the kids and the families a lot. I’ve had some really good support from the community. I think this is a good time because I think there are good people to take over and push the program into the next decade and containing to be able to deliver the fun and the success to the kids. That was always the most fun of the program.”

King’s final girls team finished third at the 2020 MHSAA Division 4 finals.
