After winning three Golf Association of Michigan junior tournaments over the summer, Cheboygan native PJ Maybank III was recently named the GAM’s Junior Boys Player of the Year.

Maybank, 15, won the GAM Junior Kickoff Championship, Michigan Junior State Amateur Championship and ended the golf season by winning the GAM Junior Invitational.

“I played some of the greatest golf of my career this summer,” Maybank said. “It definitely helped with the work I did this past winter with my coach, Brian O’Neil at the Orlando Golf Academy. It helped this summer and I had a good mindset. I feel like if I’m playing my best I feel like I can win. Sometimes I didn’t play my best and I still contended or sometimes I won. But I did play really good sometimes and I was able to win a few tournaments.”

Maybank recorded 1,404 Player of the Year points over the summer to take the award that is presented to junior players ages 18 and under.

Maybank plays out of the Hidden River Golf and Casting Club in Brutus and has made it his goal to play in the Michigan Amateur in 2021.

Maybank is currently in Florida for the offseason but will return to Michigan in the spring.
