CMU Will Not Seek Postseason, Looks To 2021

MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan football team played in their final regular season game of 2020 on Saturday.

They took on Toledo, where they fell in the final minute and a half, with a final score of 24-23.

The Chippewas ended the conference-only season with a record of 3-3.

During their postgame press conference, head coach Jim McElwain said that this was it for the season. The Chippewas will not seek or accept a bid for a bowl game.

They now look ahead to next year.

“I guarantee this offseason is going to test some guys that really didn’t get one a year ago,” said McElwain. “These kids went through a lot so when we get back we’ll find out who really wants to be here. We’ll have our first team meeting on the morning of the 19th, which we’ll welcome in probably about 21-22 new faces. When we start fall camp next year, we’ll have somewhere around 40-48 new faces on this football team.”

CMU did get to play in all six of their schedule games, with no cancellations due to coronavirus concerns.
