Kelly’s 29 Leads CMU Women Past Miami in MAC Play

MT. PLEASANT – Behind Micaela Kelly’s game-high 29 points, the Central Michigan women’s basketball team moved to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play with a 69-51 win over Miami (Ohio) at McGuirk Arena on Tuesday.

Kyra Bussell and Molly Davis joined Kelly in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Bussell tallying a double-double with 10 rebounds.

“It feels good to get the win her,” CMU coach Heather Oesterle said. “We had three really good home games homestretch here and now we go on the road with two really tough games before Christmas. 2020 has been 2020 and I’ve been proud of our team and they’re adjusting to different situations. Maybe it will be good to get rid of 2020 and move onto home games in 2021, but I was proud of how we finished our homestretch here.”

CMU held a 37-25 lead at the half and outscored Miami 21-12 in the second quarter.

The Chippewas (3-1, 2-0 MAC) held a  and shot 45.8% (27-of-59) from the floor en route to their third straight win.

Peyton Scott led the RedHawks (1-3, 0-1 MAC) with 18 points and six boards.

CMU is back on the court Friday at Michigan State. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
