LSSU’s Ashton Calder Off to Hot Start This Season

SAULT STE. MARIE — Lake Superior State Hockey assistant captain Ashton Calder is already one of the nation’s top scorers in NCAA Division 1 Men’s Ice Hockey.

Calder is currently tied for third in Division 1 scorers for game winning goals with two game winning goals this year.

The Sault Ste. Marie native also led all WCHA players in points during the month of November with five points in four games. He also led the team with a +5 rating in November, which is also tied for first among all NCAA skaters.

“He’s assistant captain, he’s a junior so he’s part of that leadership core that’s really off to a great start,” LSSU head coach Damon Whitten said. “He’s certainly been our offensive catalyst here early in the season.”

Lake Superior has a two game home stand against Bemidji State in their next games on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
