Mt. Pleasant Duo Headed to Division I Programs

A pair of Mt. Pleasant senior defensive linemen announced their college commitments Wednesday.

Josh Schell will be continuing his academic and athletic careers at West Point while teammate Anton Ricumstrict is heading to Buffalo.

The son of Mt. Pleasant boys basketball coach Dan Schell, Josh Schell tallied 48 tackles as a defensive lineman in 2020 and registered five catches as a tight end.

“That’s been my dream ever since I’ve been a little kid was playing Division I sports, whatever it was,” Schell said. “I got the opportunity to play Division I football, so I’m looking forward to the brotherhood down there and the camaraderie of the team and obviously going and playing and showing everybody how good at football I am.”

At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Ricumstrict recorded 56 tackles and two interceptions during his senior campaign that saw the Oilers 6-2 overall, with a loss to Marquette in a Division 3 district semifinal.

“It’s definitely a honor and just doesn’t really happen very much,” Ricumstrict said. “I’m excited I get to play against the best players in the world and get to showcase my abilities sometimes on TV, if it happens, so I’m just very excited to get there.”

Ricumstrict will join his dad, George Ricumstrict, at Buffalo. George Ricumstrict is in his second season as the Bulls’ defensive tackles coach after spending six years as Central Michigan’s defensive line coach.
