Reed City’s Kiaunis Taking Talents to Southern Illinois

Reed City Kiaunis To Siu Vsv.new.03

REED CITY – Abbigail Kiaunis recently capped off a successful prep career as a member of Reed City’s cross country team.

A four-time state qualifier, Kiaunis finished 12th at this year’s MHSAA Division 3 Lower Peninsula finals at Michigan International Speedway and owns several schools records.

With all of that success, the senior gained the attention of college scouts and recently signed her National Letter of Intent with Southern Illinois to compete on the school’s cross country and track and field programs.

Kiaunis believes SIU was the best fit for her.

“I loved the team aspect,” Kiaunis says. “I love not having a terrible winter but still a little bit of snow, but I was super excited about that. And I love the agriculture aspect. There’s a whole bunch of forest around there so I can still have fun out in the woods and stuff and I can get along with the team very well.”

Kiaunis plans to major in agribusiness.
