MHSAA Provides Update to Winter Sports Schedule
Following Wednesday’s MDHHS order saying non-contact organized sports and indoor group exercise classes can resume Saturday, the MHSAA provided more clarity on what that means for their organized sports this winter.
The three remaining fall sports postseasons can finish, but winter sports schedules have been changed.
The non-contact winter sports are swimming and diving, bowling and gymnastics. They can all begin practice on Jan. 16. Swimming and diving will start competition on Jan. 22. The other two start Jan. 25.
The contact sports for the winter are basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling. They can begin indoor practices on Jan. 16 with a distancing of six feet between each person. Their first competitions have been pushed back to Feb. 1.
With those changes, the MHSAA will provide an update to tournament dates, which will be announced later this week.
The MHSAA Representative Council will meet Thursday at 12 p.m. to further go through these plans.
