Suttons Bay Returns to State Finals For Second Straight Year
SUTTONS BAY – The Suttons Bay football program is back in the MHSAA 8-player Division 1 state championship game.
The Norsemen (10-0) will face Adrian Lenawee Christian (10-0) at the Legacy Center in Brighton Saturday.
Suttons Bay has not played a game since two-month layoff started in mid-November. The Norsemen earned a forfeit win over Inland Lakes in last week’s semifinal after coronavirus concerns with the Bulldogs.

“It wasn’t the way we wanted it to go. I think we wanted to earn getting to states and getting back there and getting another chance,” Suttons Bay senior Michael Wittman said. “My heart goes out to Inland Lakes I feel terrible about it but it’s good to be going back. I’m happy we’ve been safe so far.”
Lenawee Christian is still a relatively young program, with its first full season coming back in 2009. The Cougars won their first regional championships this year after dropping down to the 8-player level this fall.

“You know I think it’s a mindset of why not us and we can do this,” Suttons Bay coach Garrick Opie said. “We’re in a position to go and play our hearts out and I think this game is going to come down to heart and really having an empty gas tank at the end of the game and literally letting everything out on the field and playing as hard as they possibly can.”
Saturday’s game from the Legacy Center in Brighton kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
