Traverse City Central Ready for Semifinal Matchup with Mona Shores
TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central will play in their first state semifinal since 1988 when the Trojans last won a state title. On Saturday, they will take on Muskegon Mona Shores.
The Trojans (9-1) are coming off a strong 50-22 victory over North Farmington to win the reginal title last week, but Mona Shores (10-0) will be a tough road test.
“For us to win and stuff, we have to show up and play and do what we do,” TCC senior Carson Briggs said. “They’re obviously going to come to play but so are we. I think if we do what we do, we’ll be alright.”
The Sailors will make their third straight semifinal appearance and they have won their last two. Last season, they won the state title, but lost in the state finals in 2018. The Trojans hope to end that streak and earn a trip to the state finals at Ford Field next week.
“We’re just very blessed that we’ve been able to make it this far in such a crazy year,” TCC junior Carson Bourdo said. “So many uncertain moments during our football season. So we’re blessed to play in the semi game. Hopefully make it to the championship.”
The game will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mona Shores.
