Beard Motorsports President Mark Beard Sr. Passes Away

Beard Motorsports president Mark Beard Sr. died at the age of 72, the company announced on Monday. Beard was the owner of Beard Motorsports, which is based out of Mt. Pleasant.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Beard Sr., president of Beard Motorsports. Mark was passionate about racing and the business he built with his family, and even though he will be terribly missed, his work ethic and kind heart lives on with the many people he influenced,” the company’s statement said. They also reaffirmed that they will stay committed to the Daytona 500 this year and will race in his honor.

Beard also drove in six races during the 1982 and 1986 Busch Series, with a best finish of ninth place. He founded Beard Motorsports in 2014. They failed to qualify for the NASCAR Spring Cup Series until 2017 when they hired Brendan Gaughan to drive for the team. Gaughan retired this past year, and Beard Motorsports hired Noah Gragson to drive.

The Daytona 500 will be on Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m. on FOX.
