Hesperia Names David Smith Football Coach

Hesperia has named David Smith its new varsity football coach.

Smith takes over for Doug Bolles who stepped down last month in order to focus on family.

A 1984 Hesperia graduate, Bolles went 14-30 with a pair of playoff appearances in five years with the Panthers.

Smith previously coached at Ravenna for eight seasons (2010-17), guiding the Bulldogs to a 45-37 record with four playoff appearances, two district championships and a Division 7 state semifinal appearance in 2010.

Hesperia athletic director Jeffrey Knapp says his eight-person hiring committee was impressed with Smith’s resume at Ravenna.

Smith spent the 2019 season as Ravenna’s junior high school football coach.

Hesperia went 4-3 in 2020 for its first winning campaign since 2015.
