High School Skiing: Petoskey Girls, GNA Boys Win Regional Titles

THOMPSONVILLE — The Petoskey girls ski team won both the slalom and the giant slalom events to win the regional title and advance to the state finals. Houghton and Norway rounded out the top three. The Great North Alpine boys ski team won both events as well to finish in first place ahead of Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

The Rams tied Gaylord for third place, but Harbor Springs advances as a team to the state finals based on the results of the fifth finisher on both teams.

On the slalom course, Gaylord’s Connor Abraham led all northern Michigan skiers with a second place finish. Petoskey’s Lauren Rothman and Marley Spence finished in the top two for the Northmen.

On the giant slalom, Quincy Thayer, on the Benzie Central/Frankfort team, finished in second place overall. Rothman was once again finisher from northern Michigan on the girls side, finishing in second place for Petoskey.
