McBain’s O’Malley Signs With GVSU for Cross Country, Track

McBAIN — McBain senior Maggie O’Malley had an impressive final year in cross country, recording all top-five finishes and taking 14th place overall at the state finals meet in the fall.

The All-State and four-time All-Conference runner now takes her talents to Grand Valley State University, where both her brother and sister attend.

“I’m excited, like you never think you can do something and then all of a sudden it just happens and knowing that they go to nationals and they compete and you can even be an olympian at some point if you really wanted to, it’s just awesome,” O’Malley said. “It’s just so overwhelming, they made me feel so at home and so comfortable.”

O’Malley joins an elite running program at GVSU, with the¬†women’s team winning the NCAA Championship title in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018, with them men’s team also winning in 2018.

She says she also plans on pursuing a degree in law next fall.
