Petoskey Beats Cadillac in Big North Thriller
PETOSKEY — Petoskey’s Braidon Ewing stepped to the line in the fourth quarter with his team trailing by one point, and he knocked down both free throws to give the Northmen the 44-43 victory over Cadillac on Thursday.
Cadillac trailed Petoskey, 34-17, at one point in the third quarter, but started to build a come back in the fourth quarter with some big three pointers by Jaden Montague to pull them within one. Cole Jenema gave the Vikings the lead with a jumper with 2.1 seconds left on the clock.
But the Northmen received the two free throws by Ewing to secure the win and improve to 2-0. Cadillac falls to 0-1.
“I’m happy with the win, but we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Petoskey head coach John Flynn said. “And part of it’s closing out a game when you’re up, you know, double-digit scoring in the fourth quarter, you got to find a way to close the game out, so you know they’re learning; they’re getting better. We made mistakes. We made some plays. But it’s just now kind of fine-tuning and really just putting the nose to the grindstone as we get into this Big North Conference.”
Petoskey next plays at Boyne City on Saturday, while Cadillac looks to bounce back at Traverse City West on Tuesday.
