Sault Ste. Marie Returns Good Core for 2021 Season

The Sault Ste. Marie hockey team is back on the ice for the 2021 season with a good core of its team returning for the abbreviated season.

The Blue Devils went just 2-23 a year ago but opened their 2021 campaign with a 2-1 win over Cheboygan last Wednesday.

Coach Rick Mackie is in his third season with the Blue Devils (1-1-0) and says he likes what he’s seen from his team so far.

“For the most part, we did lose a senior goaltender last year who did a good job for us, but the majority is back. The core is back,” Mackie said. “The young guys who came in are skilled, fast and competitive. We’ve got two really good goaltenders, good defense and we’re good up front. We’re real excited about this year.”

Sault Ste. Marie is on the road at Escanaba Wednesday. The Blue Devils are next scheduled to be at home against Petoskey on March 5.
