Charlevoix Alum Qualifies for NCAA DII Indoor Championships

Charlevoix alum and Saginaw Valley State junior Jared McLean recently qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships.

McLean was part of SVSU’s distance medley relay team that placed second at last weekend’s GLIAC championships, qualifying the Cardinals for the national championships. Mclean 1

Individually, McLean placed seventh overall in the 400 dash, setting a new personal record of 49.87.

McLean is excited for his first appearance on the national stage.

“Making it to that meet after this entire year and everything has been a huge thing, because coming into this my goal was to complete a season with everything that’s going on,” McLean said. “I’ve never done this in my career yet so being able to go I think is gonna be a great experience. I’m just gonna go out there and run and just gonna leave it all out there on the track and regardless of the time that we get overall and the place we get overall, at least I know I gave it my all there.”

The NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships are set for March 11-13 in Birmingham, Alabama.
