CMU Football to Play Notre Dame in 2023

The Central Michigan football team has added Notre Dame to its 2023 non-conference schedule.

The game will be played on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023 in South Bend.

“I am thrilled for our student-athletes to be able to play on a national stage at this iconic venue,” said CMU Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan in a release. “Playing such a storied football program, coached by former CMU head coach Brian Kelly, will allow us to engage and celebrate with our CMU family and showcase all the great things happening here at Central Michigan University.”

The game will mark CMU’s first-ever meeting with Notre Dame.

“This is an exciting match-up for our players, university, alumni and fan base. It is an opportunity to compete against one of the legendary programs in college football,” CMU coach Jim McElwain said.

In addition to the Notre Dame game, CMU’s 2023 non-conference schedule also includes a home game against New Hampshire (Sept. 9) and road games at Michigan State (Sept. 2) and South Alabama (Sept. 23).

The Chippewas went 3-3 during their abbreviated 2020 campaign.

CMU opens its 2021 season at Missouri on Sept. 4.
