Hebner Etches Name in Petoskey Record Books
Harbor Springs senior and Petoskey defenseman Derek Hebner recently etched his name in the program record books.
“It’s all I’ve been looking forward to, you know, it’s the end-all be-all and I was just really happy to get to realize, you know, it’s set in stone right now that I am leading in points,” Hebner said. “I’m honored to have the record and it was a great moment.”
What made the moment even more special for Hebner is that he passed his brother, Kyle Hebner, who held the record before him.
“It’s that much more special to keep the Hebner name in the No. 1 point-getter,” Hebner said. “It was special and it felt good taking it from him. To realize, you know, it’s set in stone right now that I am leading in points, I’m honored to have the record and just grateful that it’s getting passed down through the family… My dad was announcing the game so he was able to say the words when I tied it and won it, it was a great moment.”
Hebner and Petoskey have two regular season games left before the regional tournament begins next week.
