Newaygo’s Young Vaults to Concordia Chicago

After having her junior track and field campaign canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Newaygo senior Makenna Young has set several lofty goals for her final season.

A Concordia University Chicago commit, Young is a talented pole vaulter for the Lions and qualified for the 2019 MHSAA Division 4 Lower PeninsulaImage15 finals as a sophomore.

Young is excited to continue her career at the collegiate level next spring.

“I visited a couple other colleges and they were all great. But when I went to Concordia, right when I got there, it felt like home,” Young says. “Everyone was so welcoming, and that’s what really pushed me to want to go there.”

As her final prep season approaches, Young has set a goal of breaking the school’s current pole vaulting record of 10 feet.
