Sault Ste. Marie’s McLean Signs with CMU

One of the best shot put and discus throwers in the Upper Peninsula will continue competing at the collegiate level next fall as Sault Ste. Marie senior Emily McLean signed her National Letter of Intent with Central Michigan on Thursday.

Emily McleanMcLean broke the school record and U.P. record for the shot put her sophomore year with a toss of 39-2. She is now up to just over 41 feet.

McLean chose CMU because of the school’s athletics and academics.

“Right from the very beginning, the coach was trying to get me to talk to the players, talk to the academic advisors, very personable and welcoming,” McLean said. “CMU also has a very good educational program and that’s what I’m looking to do in the future.”

McLean has her sights set on breaking the school’s discus record this spring.
