TC Christian Girls Win Division 4 State Bowling Championship

CANTON – The Traverse City Christian girls bowling program captured its first MHSAA Division 4 state championship at Super Bowl in Canton Friday.

Traverse City Christian downed Hanover-Horton in the championship match 1,077-1,042.

The Sabres posted the second-highest qualifying score and opened match play with a 1,057-1,024 win over Portland St. Patrick and followed that up with a 1,105-988 win over Ishpeming Westwood in the semifinals.

On the boys side, Traverse City Christian fell to eventual state champion St. Charles in a quarterfinal while Baldwin and Coleman finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the qualifying block.

Boyne City BowlingAt the Division 3 boys finals at JAX 60 in Jackson, Boyne City finished runner-up to Grass Lake. The Ramblers fell 1,357-1,179 in the championship match.

Boyne City finished fifth in the qualifying block and recorded wins over Livonia Clarenceville and and Onsted to reach the finals.

Ogemaw Heights had the highest scored in qualifying but fell to Onsted in the quarterfinals.

On the girls side, Cheboygan fell to Hillsdale in the quarterfinals while Boyne City was 12th in qualifying.
