Bellaire Outlasts Saginaw Nouvel in OT, Reaches State Semis
LAKE CITY – The Bellaire girls basketball team punched its ticket to its first-ever state semifinal game with a thrilling 43-42 overtime win over Saginaw Nouvel in a Division 4 quarterfinal Monday.
The Eagles (17-3) trailed 16-12 at the half and 34-32 with seven seconds remaining in regulation.
Bellaire was appearing in just its second quarterfinal game Monday.
“Definitely wasn’t pretty, but the girls did what they needed to at the end to pull it out against a very very quality Saginaw Nouvel team,” Bellaire coach Brad Fischer said. “It’s just special, and I’m so happy for these girls, and this, look at it, this community is awesome.”
Bellaire will now face Petersburg Summerfield (15-5) in a semifinal at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
